In Our Nature

Are You Feeling Your Feelings … or THINKING Your Feelings? (And Why Your Answer Really Matters)

Siobhán Friel Season 2 Episode 17

Most of the people I work with think they know how to feel their feelings. They are feeling their feelings all the time, they tell me. But many of them are wrong. Are you wrong?

I was totally wrong.

Because many of us are not feeling our feelings. We are THINKING our feelings.

And the distinction really, really matters, now more than ever, as our planet faces challenges of an unprecedented entangled scale.

Join me to explore:

  • How our modern culture (including therapy, coaching, and spirituality) teaches us to think our feelings
  • Why it matters if we are thinking feelings and not feeling them and how to know if you are doing it
  • How coaches like me perpetuate this disembodied, intellectualised relationship with our feelings (clue: it’s innocent! Promise! But still happening)
  • How our western culture elevates thought over feeling: I’m calling it Thought Supremacy and how this invisibly runs through education, healthcare, modern forms of spirituality and so much else
  • See how feelings are often treated as inconvenient or irrational and something to overcome rather than be with (and how that contributes to us not feeling them)
  • And see why all of this matters for times like now, when this disconnection between mind and body mirrors disconnection from the earth and each other
